My name is Nick Homes. I am a non genius musician who struggled for many years to find out the secrets of jazz improvisation. Throughout 40 years of playing, and obsessive investigation I have focussed on building systems of learning for my students so they can improve , and reach their learning goals with the highest probability whilst having fun!

Dexter Gordon killer rhythm changes solo analysis key philosophical take aways you need to think about to play jazz in 2024. In this video we take a detailed bar by bar analysis of Dexter´s epic solo on second balcony jump from his 1962 "Go" album. As well we look at the questions: Are you using Jazz as a vehicle to show how fast you can play? Do you want to know why every solo you improvise so...

Hi, in this video Jazzduets demonstrates a solo featuring triad pairs on top of Herbie Hancock´s Modal Jazz masterpiece Cantaloupe island. On the first chord F-7, Ab Bb triad pairs are superimposed, which produce a muscular sound feeling probably as both triad pairs are major. On the Db7, Bb and Ab minor triads are featured, creating a wistful, impressionistic sound, somewhat reminiscent of Cla...

In this UA-cam video I am really excited to share a new practice protocol I have been trying out for the last couple of weeks - I think it can be hugely beneficial for some music students who are looking to level up their playing. The idea of the Productive Practice Protocol (as I like to call it) is to combine various musical disciplines simultaneously, leveraging your practice time. Many peop...

I like it when (at 1:25) B is marked as the 7th of... Db (?). I mean, don't get me wrong, the notes are correct, but maybe that chord is actually not a dominant 7th.
You really know How to produce amazing vídeos !!
Master
I love rhythm changes. It's the best chord progression since the blues and a favorite of all jazzmen.
And Cannonball going crazy but not included
Like you I do not want to waste time. At 67 I’m trying to maximize my time and efforts. I’m a beginner moving into the intermediate level. I would like to use your systems. Where do I begin?😊
Thanks again!🙏🏿
I would describe them as moody, melancholy and introspective, but to each our own. Thank you for the post.
wooooooow!!!
Sound so good....
Go into the studio, smoke a little Sativa, put on your headphones, warm up using arpeggios with delay, and it will take you to another place. A spiritual journey, brother.
Chris Hunter demonstra um amplo domínio desse conceito em dezenas de seus solos. Jazz Duets, parabéns pelo excelente conteúdo! Saudações do Brasil.
these are great i don’t watch shorts but i’d watch a hundred of these
3:52 made me well up
me too when the brothers sent me the vocals!
Damn the singer is good. Made the hairs stand up
Great 🙂
The Bb at 1:06 is achieved by fingering an Eb, but raising your third finger in you left hand from the G key while doing a heavy vibrato. It slurs between Bb and G
Why do I need to know these? I don't play any instruments and have no interest.
Excellent.
Beautifull.
Sax with delay (and reverb/diff) one of my favorite things in the whole world. Deelay, other desert cities, calf vintage delay, studio one’s stock analog delay and most of all cherry audio’s stardust 201 tape echo top5 for me on saxophone
Very very cool ! Thank you.
Aren't Ab and Bb the 3rd and 4th degree of F Dorian? What am I missing here?
Sounds like Phil Woods mood
ALL GREAT IDEAS, Also, just play over the real changes even though their not being played jazz players do it all the time
I go with dry.
It seems far too much effect, but you probably need it that way for the examples. Unless you are producing a type of "Ambient" style music I can't see ever using more than 5-10% effect. What DAW do you use?
Great review of the plugin.
I prefer pure sax with no effects, or even amplification.
What is your set up on soprano?
I'm checking this out- without delay! 😉 ...it sounds terrific Nick!
cheers
Muy buen video. Gracias.
Andy Timmons’ Halo has an achingly pretty dotted eighth shimmer to it.
Thanks for your great content!
We all ran out to buy the Boss pedal delay. Those pedals a re a pain in the ass, with the 9 volt. Great one though. Klemmer Po o t , just slap back and call it good. I don't like to mess with this on sax.
Great tone sound incredible nick
the all delay (100% wet as its sometimes called) is such a cool effect
Can you explain please the difference between the walhalla delays colours?❤
….. and still: it’s your own wonderful tone that makes it come alive. 🙏🏻
very kind
Qué maravilla de maestría y que con solo un delay suena celestial. 🎉😊❤
Muito louco estes efeitos
I love this exercise
i like the concept but honestly why bother to include louis armstrong if youre just gonna play the head and attribute it to him, instead of playing phrases that louis would actually play while soloing. i know that pops liked to quote the head while soloing but this is virtually 100% gershwin and 0% armstrong.
I strongly disagree. The way that Louis plays the head is devastating. So in the pocket. So outstanding.
Frumos😊
Amazing
What is the value of learning these licks, really???
As a person who is skilled, but not as skilled to play it at that tempo. Should I gradually increase speed, as I understand I would not be able to play that fast. And also for counting, should I play with metronome?
I keep returning to your analyses. You are a gifted teacher.Thank you for your brilliant uploads.
this is greatly appreciated. Thank you! You made my day
@@JazzDuets every time I study your analyses I'm in paradise and I keep going back to them.Thank you again for your uploads.your Debussy is a master class. You have an incredible ear. Thanks again, Peter.
Maravilloso material, Nick. Gracias!!
In my honest opinion you are running the most insightful and most entertaining youtube channel on sax. Wally Wallace is great too but more about comedy and sax technique and less about language and theory. Really good to have this stuff around
